Quilted Metal: Essie Jamaican Me Crazy and Over the Edge
My mani today was inspired by the lovely Victoria at The Manicurator. Talk about perfect manis and pics! She’s my blogging hero. Anyway, I’ve wanted to recreate her Lattice Mani for forever.
I started with a base of Essie Jamaican Me Crazy, a shimmery fuchsia. I used two coats and a coat of Seche Vite. After it was completely dry, I taped off a criss-cross pattern with striping tape.
Then I polished one generous coat of Essie Over the Edge over everything and removed the tape immediatly after polishing each nail. Essie calls Over the Edge a “dramatic metallic midnight silver.” (Who wants to be a nail polish namer? I do!) Victoria used a dotting tool to create dots at every intersection. I did a test and the Jamacian me Crazy wasn’t opaque enough to pull that off. So I skipped that part and finished with another generous coat of Seche Vite.
I really like this color combo. It changes the whole look of the design.

Wow. That’s just perfect, your lines are so clean, it looks amazing!
Thanks! It really is an easy mani.
I love this. I’ve never gotten the whole tape method to work. I never get a straight line when I tear them off.
Me either!!! I need to work on that??
Sorry for the fat fingers ? Instead of !
The only way I can get the lines clean is to take the tape off immediately. Even if I wait only 30 seconds…the polish starts to set and I’ll get a jagged line.
Ah, see I was trying to do the opposite. To make sure it dried completely first. Thanks :)
This is gorgeous!!
Thank you! :)
Gorgeous! Nice color combination!
Thanks. I wouldn’t have thought to put these two colors together, but they were sitting next to each other on the “untried” shelf. :)
I love that combo!
Thanks, Nanni! :)
So cool! I have ordered tapes cannot wait to get them to try this! Hope it comes out as gorgeous as this!! :)
Let me know when you do. I’d love to see it!
So cool and doesn’t look insanely difficult.
Not difficult at all. The hardest part is cutting all those pieces of striping tape! I cut them all first (6 per nail) and lined them up on the edge of the table. It seemed to go faster that way.
Thank you so much for the lovely link!! I swear I typed out and sent a comment already but I don’t see it :/ Yours looks perfect!! Absolutely love those colors together. Funny, we were both making lattice manis today too! at the same time..I’m posting one
Great minds think alike! Or in this case…an average mind (me) thinks like a great mind (you) at the same time. LOL. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Once again, you have further solidified why you are my best blogging friend. LOVE THE MANI!
Does that make us BBFs? LOL
YES!
That looks so good!!
Such a good idea!!!!
I agree…I’m glad I copied it from the Manicurator. (hee hee)
