Tone-on-Tone: Essie Leading Lady Red-Tipped French

Good morning! Today I have a tone-on-tone french mani. In the spirit of the holidays…I’ve used red on red. Specifically Essie Leading Lady tips over A-England Perceval. The look is really subtle, but very pretty. Especially when you move your hand around in the light.

I started with two coats of Perceval. This is an awesome red! (You can read my review of it here.) After a coat of Seche Vite and 15 minutes, I taped off the tips using Sally Hansen French manicure guides. I polished one generous coat of Leading Lady and finished with another coat of Seche Vite. Sorry to picture bomb you but is was difficult to narrow it down!

I haven’t tried a tone-on-tone French yet but plan to for a Hannukah party this weekend!

    • What color will you use? I like the matte/shiny french too! Thanks for reading!

      • Michelle Ramos says:

Well, I messed up. lol I forgot the polish I wanted to use–Orly’s Torrid–has more shimmer than you see in the bottle, so when I did the tips in China Glaze’s Ruby Pumps, you have to look pretty close to see any difference. Still, I’m hoping the glitter on the tips will keep it looking fresher longer since most of my glittery polishes don’t chip much at all.

I saw my nails out in the sun and there, you can tell that there are two different colors so I guess I didn’t do so badly after all!

Gorgeous combo. I know it’s hard to photograph looks like this, they always look better in person. You did great though, now I want to do a monochrome look :)

Does Leading Lady compare to China Glaze Ruby Red Pumps?

  6. Brilliant! I am copy catting you and painting my nails like this for my holiday party this weekend. Thanks for the idea oh Mani Master!

I wonder … would it too much for a very casual, Non-White!, wedding? I’m wearing black long gown with rhinestone time across a no-sleeve low neckline dress. He’s wearing black suit, black shirt, black and red tie. We like black! lol

    • I say go for it! I went to a wedding once where the bridesmaids wore black and the bride had a custom wedding gown…beading, veil, huge train…just a gorgeous wedding gown – but it was completed RED! We all gasped when she walked out because it had been kept such a secret.
