China Glaze Drawn to Me: Chevrons Two Ways

Disclosure: Products in this post were provided by the manufacturer, their PR firm, or retailer for my review.

Hi all. I’m still getting back into the groove.  I was snowed in yesterday (which is heaven to a very part-time nail blogger). I’m always in such a rush.  Today I have some info about an awesome sweepstakes at Keep reading to the end of the post for details on how to enter! For now…here’s today’s simple mani.

China Glaze Magnetix Drawn to You and pastel pink So Easy Stripe Rite (work / play / polish)

Lately, if I really love a smooth creamy polish formula (magnetic or not), I compare it to China Glaze Magnetix. It must be something fancy about protons or force fields. Whatever it is, I love the application. I’m wearing Drawn to You from the first Magnetix release. I used the chevron striped magnet.

The magnetic effect was off. My lines are like rolling waves instead of parallel right angles! Since the design wasn’t as graphic as I’d hoped, I mimicked the chevron on a few accent nails using a pastel pink So Easy Stripe Rite striper. I love the Stripe Rite stripers because they are inexpensive and the brushes are generally good. Since you can essentially “erase” your mistakes until you cover with topcoat, it’s a good choice if you’re freehanding a design.

I like the finished product. It’s simple, but interesting. Also, I used China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat for the first time. I like the formula and dry time was quick, as advertised. I desperately need an alternative to Seche Vite. I love me some Seche Vite…but it’s sooo high maintenance. Thinning Seche Vite is like cleaning out your car interior. As soon as you do it, you’re like “Oh wow, this is awesome. I will never let it get dirty (i.e., thick) again!” and then a few weeks later you’re thinking, “I want a new car.” [Okay, so maybe I’m the only one who does that.]

And now for details on how you can win a $500, $250 or $100 shopping spree in the BigDaddyBeauty is an online retailer of beauty products for home and salon/spa use. To celebrate a successful 2012, they are offering shopping sprees to three lucky winners. No purchase is necessary but be sure to read the official rules before entering. BigDaddyBeauty can also be found on Facebook and Twitter. Good luck!

I love the combination even if the magnetic didn’t turn out how you wanted it :)

When you say you “thin out” your seche vite, what do you use to do that? I have a top coat that I love and it doesn’t even get halfway used up before it gets almost too thick to use. I’ve used nail polish remover (added in a drop at a time) to regular nail polish colors, but it seems to take the shine away; I dont want that to happen to the top coat. Thanks for any help!

    • Hi Katie, I use Seche Restore. Quick-dry topcoats work by penetrating the layers of polish and “evaporating” (sorry, that’s probably not the technical way to say that). Unfortunately, the ingredients which help your polish dry fast also evaporate from the bottle every time you open it…hence the goopiness. Just look for a thinner that replaces the solvent in your polish ingredients (generally Butyl Acetate and/or Ethyl Acetate). Polish remover will work in a bind but eventually it will break down the formula and dull the finish as you’ve noticed. It’s not a big deal if it’s a cheapie…but if it’s a HTF or treasured Indie – you want to take care of it! :)

    LOVE this! It’s gorgeous.

Have you ever tried Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Dry Top Coat? It’s thick like SV when you apply it but it doesn’t get thick and goopy in the bottle. I have her huge 2.5 oz bottle and I’m about half way through it and have never had to add thinner to it. I swear by it. <3
Here's the link to her shop if you want to check it out.

  6. I have awarded you with the Blog Of The Year. Nothing else to do, except award others if your want, and add the award to your sidebar – if you want :)
