Digit-al Dozen Does Geek: Star Wars R2-D2 French Mani

It’s Day three of Digit-al Dozen Geek Week. I love these challenges. I always grumble as the week draws near because it really does take some effort to produce five themed manis in a row…but I really do get inspired by the awesomeness of the other gals in the group. It pushes me to think. So in that vein, today I have a stylized Star Wars R2-D2 French Mani.

Star Wars R2-D2 French Manicure

There were two inspirations for this mani. The first was seeing four Zoya polishes serendipitously lined up in a row on my polishing table (which is really just a plain old table but I call it my “polishing table” because it sounds fancy): Purity, Trixie, Tallulah and Raven. These colors reminded me of a Star Wars candy heart box I bought for my hubby for Valentine’s Day. It was silver with geometric R2-D2-esque embellishments.

Zoya Star Wars Palette: Purity, Trixie, Tallulah, Raven

The “french” part just sort of evolved. Again, I used my trusty striping tape to lay out the design. I’m not gonna lie…I did have a moment (or two) of STRIPING TAPE RAGE. You know…when the end of the tape magically dissolves into the roll – only to be found by scraping your nail around the entire thing no less than 40 times!! I persevered. I used two sizes of dotting tools to make the circles.

This is the first time I’ve used Zoya Trixie and I love it! It is extreme silver. Sally Hansen Celeb City used to be my go-to silver metal polish, but the Zoya formula and wear are much better! And I love the Talullah blue against the silvery Trixie.

Check out the other geekiness and please stay tuned for another blatantly predictable geeky nail art design from me tomorrow. :D

  1. oh man i feel you pain on losing the end tape. i try to cute them all out beforehand so i dont have to deal with that – a few ruined manicures taught me that lesson. this mani is ridiculous! i am loving the crap out of it – so is my boyfriend!

    • I try to cut them all out beforehand too but the tape has a vendetta against me and still disappears in a split second! LOL. I’m glad you like the mani. It’s one of my faves ever.

  2. Missy says:

These are awesome! I love that R2 is just the accent with the awesome French look on the rest. Amazing job!

  3. Alicea says:

I recently re-watched Star Wars Episode IV and R2-D2 is one of my favourite characters! Beautiful nails, as always!

  4. Aglaya says:

How cute! R2-D2 is my favorite Star Wars character :-)

  5. Ginny says:

Awesome mani! Love the colors. I have never used the striping tape. Not even sure where to find it but I am going to have to look into it.

    • Carrie Statum says:

I got my striping tape off eBay for around a dollar with free shipping. Amazon and bornprettystore.com also has it for very reasonable prices. I hope this helps it’s a lot of fun to use once you get the hang of it.

  6. So cute! Geeks and nerds unite!! ;-)

  7. satine89 says:

  8. Stacy says:

So, I only discovered your blog a few months ago but it has rapidly become one of my absolute favorites (I’m talking top 10 here and I follow a LOT of nail blogs!!) and manicures like this are the reason why!! This is full on amazeballs!!

  9. Oh, my goodness! These are gorgeous! Wow!

  10. fishgirl182 says:

this is brilliant! i just found your blog and your pics are soooo beautiful. great job!

  11. Jolène says:

Oh, this is SO SHARP. Your lines are perfect, and the fact that R2D2′s blue shapes don’t perfectly line up (i.e. you didn’t cheat and just stripe as little as possible, you put things where they belong) is super-impressive. This is the first post of yours I’ve seen, and I have bloglovin’ed* the heck out of you!

    *probably not a real verb

    • Jolène says:

ALSO: and this is a question, I hope you’ll pardon my newb-ness: how does the Digit-al Dozen thing work? I’m new new new to nail blogging and I’ve figured out Polish Days, but this one eludes me. Google is being no help at all. Thank you! x

      • Hi Jolene. I’m glad you found me. Thanks for the compliments!! I believe bloglovin’ed is indeed a real word! :) I just added your blog to my reader too. Digit-al Dozen is a small, private group of blogging BFs that do a themed nail art week once a month. We started out at 12 members (hence the dozen in the name).

      • Jolène says:

Aha! That’s what I suspected. :) Thanks so much for confirming that I wasn’t just losing my mind / my Google-fu.

  12. Tina says:

This is total pure beepedy beep genius! Well worth that well known tape RAGE! I have started to stick the end of my tape to the side of the roll when I am working to avoid the terror and waste of time trying to find that damn end!

  13. Genius indeed! Awesome job! :D

  14. Kellie says:

Aww so cute. I can just hear his tweets and whistles of approval lol.

  15. Glowstars says:

In the star wars stakes this mani totally beats my stormtroopers!

  16. Ahhhh! Be still my heart – I LOVE THIS. My Dad would like this! lol
