I’m on the homestretch! Digit-al Dozen week is so fun…but so labor intensive! Today is day four of Fashion Week. My look is inspired by a Roberto Cavalli dress from his Fall 2013 Ready to Wear Collection. NYX Nail Polish and Precious Pearls Nail Jewelry were perfect to recreate this amazing dress! I started with two coats of NYX Red Wine. After the base polish was dry, I sectioned off lines with striping tape before applying the NYX Precious Pearls in Black Pearls. Precious Pearls is a caviar-type nail treatment, but the “pearls” are so much more delicate than anything I’ve tried! If you look at the dress closely, the black sequins are laid on wine colored fabric. So instead of using the black base polish that comes with the Black Pearls kit, I used the Red Wine again. This also eliminated some clean up since the lines wouldn’t have to be so perfect.
After polishing a generous coat over my tape, I sprinkled the pearls onto the nail and pressed them into the polish. Then I carefully removed the tape. I had to scoot the pearls around a bit, but they line up fairly easily while the polish is wet. I used a dotting tool to dot polish into any bare spots, then picked up individual pearls and put them in place. I had to do some minor clean-up between the stripes, but not much. I love the finished product and I was really pleased with the quality of both the polish and the Precious Pearls.
I wasn’t very familiar with NYX, but got to meet their Chief Creative Director (who founded DuWop Cosmetics) and VP of Communications while I was at Cosmoprof North America. NYX has an amazing range of “affordable luxury” makeup products. I walked away with a generous goodie bag, so I’ve been sampling everything for the past month. I’m no makeup guru or beauty blogger…but the Butter Gloss, Natural Eye Palette and Wonder Pencil are new faves! The core line of polish includes 120+ shades and 10 treatments. Polish retails for only $4. It may be the best polish I’ve tried at this price point! The Precious Pearls Kits come in three colors (Black Pearl, White Pearl and Opal Pearl) and retail for $9.99.
