Ruby Wing Sweet Fantasy Collection Swatches and Review

press samples

Is it Monday already?! I had a great weekend. How about you? Today I have the latest release from Ruby Wing called the Sweet Fantasy Collection. All Ruby Wing polishes use SolarActive technology to change colors in the sunlight. The Ruby Wing Cupcakes and Champagne Collection was one of my most visited posts in all of 2013 (see it here)…so I’m excited to share more with you. To photograph these shades, I held my pinky and ring fingers under a black light to create the “outdoor” color and then ran like a crazy person to my camera setup to take the shot before it changed back. I’ve included Ruby Wing bottle photos with each swatch for comparison.

I’ll start with my fave. This is Kitten Heels, a crazy bright pink creme that turns into an almost neon, cool red. Both colors are beautiful. I love, love, love this one! Formula was excellent. My swatch is two easy coats.

Ruby Wing Kitten HeelsSilk Sheets is soft coral with a slight golden shimmer. In the sun, it turns to a deeper orange-leaning coral…which makes the shimmer even more pronounced (but it’s hard to see in my pic). I don’t think peachy shades look good on me, but this is truly a pretty polish. I used two coats.

Ruby Wing Silk SheetsSo I didn’t expect to like In Your Dreams as much as I do. From the company bottle shots, I expected it to be an old school frosty white that turned a little gray. But in actuality, it’s a a pale blue creme indoors. In the sun, it darkens to a medium periwinkle…a much more drastic change than the bottle photos show. The formula was a little streaky. I used three coats for evenness.

Ruby Wing In Your Dreams from the Sweet Fantasy Collection

Ruby Wing In Your DreamsDolled Up has a nude creme base with red, blue and yellow glitters. In the sun, the base changes to a deep rusty pink. Application was a little challenging (as I find with most creme-based glitters). I did one thin coat, focusing on getting even coverage of the creme base, followed by one generous coat to lay down the glitter. Here’s a tip: When polishing a solar color changing polish that starts out nude or clear…do your cleanup under a black light. Then you won’t walk out into the sun and find a bunch of missed spots! I’m not crazy about this one – but it’s just personal preference.

Ruby Wing All Dolled Up from the Sweet Fantasy Collection

Ruby Wing Dolled UpDeepest Desire is a medium olive/bronze metallic shimmer. It actually reminds of Color Club Pearl District…only greener. In the sun, the shade deepens to a darker bronze. The formula was really nice. I used two coats.

I was most eager to try Centerfold, a pink jelly packed with multi-sized silver and large black hex glitters. The color change was extreme to say the least! Outdoors, the pink jelly base turned to a deep eggplant purple. The glitters are chunky, so I applied this in the same way as Dolled Up. Again, I used two coats of topcoat.

Ruby Wing CenterfoldI found that all of these, except for In Your Dreams (which actually turned out to be stronger in real life), really changed colors as advertised! I’m packing Kitten Heels in my beach vacation bag for sure! How fun would this be for summer pedi?! Which one is your fave?

Absolutely beautiful swatches! My favourite polishes happen to be from Ruby Wing (Strawberry Shortcake & Cinnamon Bun). You’re the only blogger I’ve seen swatching their polishes. Are you by any chance going to swatch their new Wicked West collection? (I hope so!) Especially Ride Em Cowgirl? I would love to see how close it is to Strawberry Shortcake! It would be great to see swatches of the other colours too, before deciding if I want to buy any. Thanks! :)
