Sally Hansen Teams Up with Polished Girlz for New York Fashion Week

Hi guys! I don’t normally post on Sundays, but I wanted to share the official Sally Hansen press release about Alanna’s trip to NYFW. I’m speechless. I talked to Alanna’s mom and the Sally Hansen team were amazing hosts and incredibly supportive of the remarkable work the Polished Girlz are doing worldwide. (If you want to learn more about the Polished Girlz…see this post introducing my Blogging for a Cause Guest Post Series in December.)

SALLY HANSEN TEAMS UP WITH POLISHED GIRLZ FOR NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Alanna Wall, courageous founder of Polished Girlz, a non-profit organization that provides manicures for children in hospitals, worked with nail color authority Sally Hansen to create stylish nail looks for Raul Penaranda’s Fall 2014 collection. “I am beyond thrilled to be working the Raul Penaranda NYFW Presentation, with the support of the Sally Hansen Team. My nail looks were inspired by the beautiful fabrics and designs of Raul Penaranda, his clothes have so much life they inspire me to create artistic nails that have a calming and complementary effect. For Me, the colors in the Sally Hansen Line were a perfect reflection of that beauty, and I cannot thank them enough for trusting that I can make their products shine.”- Alanna Wall Founder, Polished Girlz Founder “Sally Hansen is proud to partner with Polished Girlz at New York Fashion Week,” said Johanna Businelli, Senior Vice President Color Cosmetics, Coty Beauty. “Alanna Wall’s extraordinary talent, entrepreneurial spirit and devotion to helping others make her a true inspiration and role model for her generation.”

THE INSPIRATION

The Raul Penaranda Fall 2014 Collection is called Evolution. “This collection is inspired by the simple fact that I have evolved as a person and as a designer. It is a celebration of life that can be best described through my clothing. It is my own evolution to share with the world” – said Raul Penaranda. “Working with Alanna of Polished Girlz had been one of the most incredible and rewarding experiences I had while presenting my collection at New York Fashion Week,” said Raul Penaranda. “Her enthusiasm and professionalism is contagious as well as her charisma and passion for her work. We enjoy every second of her job and predisposition in an environment that can be stressful and harsh sometimes. We are looking forward to continue sharing many more memories together.” After eleven years of an impressive career collaborating and working with Liz Claiborne, DKNY, Kellwood, Tommy Hilfiger and Oscar de la Renta, Penaranda’s recent recognitions by industry critics are a testament of his unique sensibility, craftsmanship and excellence. Raul Penaranda is a collision of sensuality and sophistication’s at its best.

press samples

It’s almost the weekend! Sheeeeew! It couldn’t have come fast enough. I’ve had a crazy week. Today I have some swatches of Sally Hansen’s new Triple Shine line PLUS some awesome news about Sally Hansen and the Polished Girlz! First I’ll give you a peek at the polish…and then I’ll jump into the news! (click here to go straight to the swatches)

Sally Hansen and The Polished Girlz

If you followed my Blogging for a Cause Guest Post Series to benefit the Polished Girlz last month, then you know all about 13-year-old Alanna and her amazing charity that brings sparkle to the lives of terminally ill and hospitalized children with nail art parties, while educating on the importance of hand washing to reduce infection rates. I’m very involved in the organization and was beyond thrilled when 25 of some of the most revered nail artists and bloggers ON THE PLANET agreed to participate to help raise money for, and bring awareness to, this cause (see the wrap up post HERE if you missed it).  If this series has even the slightest, teeniest part in bringing future opportunities their way, then we have MORE than accomplished our objective!

So this past Monday, the Polished Girlz announced their partnership with Sally Hansen for New York Fashion Week (NYFW) next month!!!

“Alanna will serve to showcase the remarkable colors and tools of the Sally Hansen brand as she creates the complete nail look for the Raul Peneranda NYFW presentation. This presentation will include rich blues, stunning blacks and amazing shades of gold. Alanna is also proud to showcase her beautiful 3D art using natural stone, crystals and coppers to accent the beautiful designs. We could not be more honored to serve as part of the Sally Hansen Family for the 2014 NYFW Showcase. For more information on our Collaborating Partners, Sally Hansen, please visit www.sallyhansen.com, Designer Raul Penaranda, please visit www.raulpenaranda.com, Makeup/Beauty Department Lead, Josephine Fusco, please visit  www.makeupbyjosephine.com/blog, and 13 year old Nail Team Lead and Polished Girlz Founder Alanna Wall on www.polishedgirlz.com.” [Polished Girlz Statement]

Is that exciting or what?! And this is no simple honorary assignment either. Alanna will no-kidding be the Nail Lead for the show, designing the nail looks (she’ll be using Sally Hansen Bold Gold, Silk Onyx, Blue My Mind and Go Gold), as well as directing a team of nail artists to help her execute the work. Alanna is so humble and it makes me even prouder of her. She loves participating in events, but her heart is with the patients…and she knows these amazing opportunities will ultimately help the organization reach more clients across the globe. I have a feeling this is the start of something wonderful. ;)  Thank you, Sally Hansen!

Sally Hansen Triple Shine Swatches and Review

Now to the swatches! Sally Hansen recently released a new line of nail color called Triple Shine. Sally Hansen says this line’s “innovative formula features a one-of-a-kind Ultimate Shield Complex, designed to help polish withstand the wear and tear of everyday living.” See the original press release here to read about all of the features of this polish. I sound like a broken record, but I must repeat this every time. It’s impossible for me to road test polish for wear time. There’s just too much polish to swatch and too few hours! But I CAN test polish for application and appearance. So today I have five polishes from the Triple Shine line in a few finishes to show you. All swatches are finished with Sally Hansen Triple Shine Top Coat.

Vanity Flare is a creamy, bright, medium purple. The formula was excellent and the shine is amazing even before topcoat. My swatch is two coats.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Bling in the New Year Collection Swatches and Review

press samples

Hello friends! Happy Tuesday. So you know that saying about “the best laid plans…”? Well that was me last week. I had every intention of powering through my swatch pile. But between preparing for my Rite Aid appearance in San Diego this past weekend and a bout of pink eye in the WPP household (eeew! Thank goodness it wasn’t me!) – I didn’t get much blogging done. So this week and next will be filled with swatches. But never fear, nail art lovers, I have something super exciting in the works. I promise that before this month is over, you’ll have more awesome nail art then you’ll know what to do with! And all for a good cause…so stayed tuned!

Today I have some beautiful glittery toppers from Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure (CSM) Bling in the New Year Collection (see original press release here). I’m a big fan of the CSM line. Each polish has a base coat, strengthener, color and top coat built right in. I always use a top coat no matter what…but I do find the CSM shades all have a pretty incredible gel-like shiny finish. My swatches have the glitters layered over shades from the new Sally Hansen Triple Shine line (swatches of those coming soon).

Fa-la-la-lavender has a combination of lavender pink and periwinkle purple glitters in a clear base. I used one coat over Sally Hansen Triple Shine Vanity Flare. I love this base with this topper!

LAYER ON THE SHINE WITH NEW SALLY HANSEN TRIPLE SHINE NAIL COLOR

THINK: Polish that shines through everything you do.

WHAT THEY ARE: Biggest, boldest, shiniest colors. When it comes to a brilliant shine, the key word is more, more, more. That’s why Sally Hansen is bringing maximum radiance to the season’s most covetable colors with the new Triple Shine Nail Color. Sally Hansen knows that high shine is what you crave. Yet, daily hand washing can eat away at color due to water’s high pH, detergent can dull shine, and everything from chlorine to heat can damage polish’s precious luster. Luckily, this innovative formula features a one-of-a-kind Ultimate Shield Complex, designed to help polish withstand the wear and tear of everyday living. As the latest breakthrough from Sally Hansen, the definitive color authority, Triple Shine Nail Color marries sheer brilliance with the shades of the moment for non-stop shine in the colors you covet.

THE TECHNOLOGY:

Triple Shine Nail Color is formulated with an Ultimate Shield Complex, exclusive to Sally Hansen. It is a carefully balanced blend of solvents and color solids that work synergistically for high impact color and maximum shine. It delivers Triple Shine benefits via:

  • The Gloss-Tech Brush designed specifically to apply the Triple Shine formula. It lays down polish smoothly and evenly to form a glass-like, flawless finish that maximizes lasting shine – and looks “just applied” for days.
  • An exclusive complex of Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E for daily defense from water, detergent and every day wear plus Sea Kelp and Panthenol for maximum hydration.
  • Guanine, a natural crushed pearl found in aquatic life delivers a natural iridescence and high-impact, lasting shine.

Digit-al Dozen Does Animal Week: Racy Snakeskin

Have you seen those recipes where they take a boxed mix, like a cake mix, add a few special ingredients and all the sudden it’s gourmet! Those things are perfect for me because I seriously cannot cook or bake. Even my Kraft Mac n’ Cheese doesn’t always turn out right. Today’s mani is based on the same principle – taking something boxed and making it gourmet. This look was done with Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips in Snake Charmer with half moons painted on top in Essie Licorice and Beyond Cozy. I told my husband I freehanded the snakeskin pattern. Silly husband…he believed me!

Spring Flowers with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

Happy Friday! I was at the store the other day and the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line was on sale for $1.99 (they retail for $7.99). I’ve had a good experience with this polish - so I couldn’t pass them up. According to Sally Hansen, this all-in-one polish requires no basecoat or topcoat and has a “gel shine finish”.  I always use a topcoat anyway (because I just can’t help myself). But I must say…the result is always extra, super-duper glassy (see this mani too).
