The Lacquer Legion: AFTER DARK…Halloween Circles

Hi guys. It’s October’s Lacquer Legion and the prompt is AFTER DARK. I had so much trouble with this one. It seems like every single Halloween-themed nail art has been done before…plus I shy away from horror and frankly anything I wouldn’t let my daughter wear! I started “doodling” some dotted circles on a Post It note with some orange and black polishes. Then I had the idea to make the center of each one a different Halloween icon – and so this nail art was born. These are about as tame as it gets for Halloween…but I really like how they turned out. The theme is subtle. In fact, you probably wouldn’t even notice it if you weren’t looking for it.

My base polishes are the two shades in the Morgan Taylor Halloween CollectionThe set includes Little Black Dress (a great black!) and a crazy bright orange called Orange Crush. I used a fine art brush to create the jack-o-lanterns, skulls, spiders and bats and teeny dotting tools to make the dots.

Digit-al Dozen Does Love & Heartbreak: Simple Heartbreak

For my third Digit-al Dozen Love and Heartbreak mani, I was going for dark and ominous. I didn’t expect it to be quite so subtle! You have to squint to see the nail art…but I really do like it. This is two coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Pat on the Black with a-england Perceval hearts.

Digit-al Dozen Does Love & Heartbreak: Vivid Lacquer Theoretical Rockstar

Digit-al Dozen Theme Week was delayed this month so our Love & Heartbreak manis would coincide with Valentine’s Day. Whether you love this holiday or hate it, we have you covered. Since I tend to be a Valentine’s Day Lover and not a Fighter, I had to really force myself to do a few gloomy heartbreak manis…starting today. For some reason the combination of gray with messy black hugs and kisses says “heartbroken” to me.

Houndstooth Stamped Mani with Zoya Farah, Carmen and Raven

More stamping today! Am I getting brave or what? I’m just so excited about these VividLacquer plates. Today I used the houndstooth pattern from VL005 (here’s a link to the plate in the VL Etsy Store). This look is entirely Zoya. The base is Farah, the red is Carmen and the black is Raven.

Facing My Nail Stamping Anxiety!

I haven’t done stamping in awhile. And you know why? It stresses me out. I go to all that trouble to polish perfectly, clean up, let my nails dry, take 42 tries to get a single image transferred to the stamper correctly…and then I hold my breath!! What if it doesn’t work? What if I choke? What if it’s crooked? What if it stamps perfectly and then the topcoat smears it? And don’t even get me started on stamping with more than one color. That’s crazy talk. People who can do that have special powers. Anyway, my order of Vivid Lacquer custom stamping plates arrived and I was so excited about them that I completely forgot about my stamping anxiety issues.

MAC Glitter and Limelight

For my last mani of the week, I have my very first MAC polishes, Everything that Glitters and In the Limelight. This duo makes up half of the 4-polish MAC Glamour Daze Nail Lacquer Collection released in October for the holiday 2012 season. I’ll show you the other two shades, Endless Night and Girl Trouble, in a future post. I had super high expectations considering the price tag of these babies and I REALLY wanted to love them. But in the end I was disappointed. Let’s get to the mani and you’ll read why…

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Hisss-terical

Happy Monday! It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving 2012 has came and went. It’s time to divert my attention from food to manis! Today I’m showing you something different. I must be the last person on the planet to try real, no kidding, nail polish strips. I bought two packs of Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips on clearance at Target. They were intended for my daughter’s Christmas Stocking…but she found them! The pattern I’m sporting is 004 Hisss-terical, a green/black snakeskin print.
