ellagee You’re the Top! Collection Swatches & Review

Disclosure: Products in this post were provided by the manufacturer, their PR firm or retailer.

ellagee is a new name in indies. I actually crossed paths with Laura, the maker of ellagee, many moons ago when she and I swapped the “blogger only” and “store only” versions of Pure Ice Sugar Cookie. One day she mentioned she might like to make polish – and in the blink of an eye, this overachiever had a logo, a store, two polish collections and really a beautiful product!

The You’re the Top! Collection is based on the old standards from the 1930’s and 40’s. These glitter-filled, clear-based topcoats add life to any manicure. I’m honestly super impressed. Her base is really smooth and easy to apply and her glitter combos are smart and delicate. You may think I’m just saying this because I know her…but take a look at the pics and decide for yourself. :)

I’ll start with my unexpected favorite. Crazy He Calls Me is a rainbow glitter explosion! It’s not the look I usually go for, so I didn’t think I would like it. But I actually love it! I used one coat of Crazy He Calls Me over three coats of China Glaze Creative Fantasy.

Super Black Lacquers Drunk Dial

I have a quick swatch for you today. I intended to swatch three Super Black polishes, but I couldn’t bear to take the first one off. Super Black Lacquers (SBL) are handmade by Natalie Dee, who’s already made a name for herself with her popular comics, Natalie Dee and Married to the Sea. Her graphic design background shows – in both her polish and her amazing packaging. This is Drunk Dial, a berry jelly with red, orange and holographic yellow glitters. I’m in love with this polish.

Vivid Lacquer Theoretically Spring Collection

Wow. This is my second post in a single day! I think that’s happened only once in the history of this blog. But today was important – I wanted to get you swatches of the new Vivid Lacquer Theoretically Spring Collection before they go on sale this week. I’m really digging these delicate pastel milky-based glitters lately, so I was excited to see this collection. You can probably get these opaque in 3-4 coats, but I’ve shown each swatch over a coordinating base. These are my fave VL’s ever!

First up is Theoretical Blogger. It’s a creamy lavender base with darker purple and lavender multi-sized glitter. I’ve used two coats of Theoretical Blogger over two coats of Zoya Julie. So pretty!

OPI Mariah Carey Anti-Bleak and ILNP A Nice Chianti

Disclosure: Products in this post were provided by the manufacturer, their PR or retailer for my review.

I have just one pic today. This post was supposed to be a plain ole’ swatch of OPI Anti-Bleak from the Mariah Carey Collection. I get Anti-Bleak on the nail, clean it up, everything is fabulous…then I finish with a coat of Seche Vite. A tainted, pink-tinted, glittery coat of Seche Vite! I don’t know how or when that happened. I have multiple bottles of Seche Vite and I must have reached for one that I used while polishing my nails in my sleep. In any event, it was hardly a true swatch of Anti-Bleak anymore. So I added one generous coat of I Love Nail Polish (ILNP) A Nice Chianti. Then I went to bed. I didn’t even re-top coat it the next day. I grabbed the camera and took two pics for posterity’s sake. And one of the pics actually turned out decent !…[it's clickable today]

Butter London Jack the Lad and Finger Paints Figure of Art Saran Wrap Mani

can’t believe the end of January is already here! Before I know it, the weather will be warmer…so time’s a wastin’ to try my winter untrieds. Today I have a Saran Wrap Mani using Butter London Jack the Lad and Finger Paints Figure of Art. This is the first time I’ve used either of these polishes.

Pure Ice On His Saddle and Bring on the Joy

Today I have a simple tape mani with two Pure Ice faves, On His Saddle and Bring on the Joy. Both of these polishes were part of the 2012 Limited Edition Holiday Collection (I swatched them here and here.) This collection became quite the hot commodity late last year. While these colors may not be available anymore…I recommend you always peruse the special collection Pure Ice displays whenever you’re at Walmart. In fact, I believe some of the new releases are actually renamed polishes from the Runway Trends Collection.

Shimmer Polish Swatches Part 1

Disclosure: Products in this post were provided by the manufacturer, their PR firm, or retailer for my review.

Happy Monday! Today is Part 1 of 2 of my Shimmer polish swatchathon. Shimmer’s glitter architect, Cindy (with some help from my sister), sent me the best surprise nail mail ever! If you missed it on Facebook, click HERE to see my failed attempt at capturing a panoramic shot of the moment. I laugh every time I see it (look at the ginormous appliances in the background!) Let’s get to the first seven swatches!

Shimmer polishes are just that…shimmery. Most shades are dense, fine, multi-colored, multi-shaped glitters in a clear or slightly tinted base. The glitter combinations are very complex, but versatile. On Friday. I showed you Leslie over Sinful Colors Let’s Talk, a deep royal purple/blue. Below is Leslie over Zoya Kelly, a rich gray. Can you believe it’s the same polish?! I ran into zero issues with the formula. All swatches have one coat of Seche Vite topcoat. Full-sized pics are in the gallery at the end of the post.
